FAQs Brisbane Hydrotherapy
When will the sessions take place?
The Hydrotherapy Clinic will be available on alternating Mondays and Wednesdays between 11.45am and 2.45pm, with each one-on-one session running for an hour. To maximise your session time, we recommend changing into your swimwear prior to arriving at the pool and arriving 10 minutes early, to ensure everything is ready to go at the commencement of the session time.
Where will the Hydrotherapy sessions take place?
Colmslie Aquatic Centre, Morningside, 4170, Qld. Accessible parking is available.
What do hydrotherapy classes involve?
Hydrotherapy consists of performing exercises and stretches while submerged in warm water to assist with decreasing pain while improving strength, cardiovascular fitness, range of motion of joints, flexibility of muscles, and decreasing excessive tone.
A typical session might look like a warmup and mobility before a strength or fitness program. Our programs are individually tailored to your needs and goals, guided by your Exercise Physiologist.
What are the benefits of hydrotherapy?
The benefits of hydrotherapy sessions include being able to complete exercises with decreased strain on your joints, allowing the workout to be less painful as the water relaxes your muscles, as well as improved strength, fitness and mobility outside the pool.
Hydrotherapy can be beneficial for a variety of conditions, including arthritis, rehabilitation after joint replacements or injury, stroke, acquired brain injury, spinal cord injury, cerebral palsy, post-polio syndrome and multiple sclerosis.

Do I need to complete an initial consultation first?
If this is your first appointment at the Healthy Living Centre, then you will require an initial consultation, which can take place at the pool or at the Centre. An initial consultation provides you the opportunity to ask any questions about the sessions and your therapist time to understand your health history and your goals.
You will not require an initial consultation if you have had one previously at the Healthy Living Centre with a Physiotherapist or Exercise Physiologist.
What do I need to bring to the appointment?
You will need to bring a transfer equipment (eg mesh sling if using a hoist for transfers) for your own personal hygiene reasons. Bring your clothes to change into, towel, water and food if needed.
We will provide hydrotherapy equipment during the class however, if you have something you want us to use during the appointment, please bring this as well.
Do I need a support worker to assist them in the classes?
We recommend having an additional person whether that be a Personal Support Worker, family member or friend, to assist you during your hydrotherapy session. Our Exercise Physiologists will provide directions to your support person throughout the session to ensure they feel confident to best support you during your exercise program.
What happened if I have an open wound?
For health and safety reasons, clients with open wounds will not be able to enter the pool. If you have an open wound this will either need to be dressed or we may to consider rescheduling the appointment.
What do I do if I wear a continence aid?
Please empty your urine/stoma bag before your session. If you feel as though you would be more comfortable covering this, we recommend wearing either a rashie or sun shirt. There are companies with a range of Incontinence Swimwear that are designed and approved to be used in all swimming and hydrotherapy pools internationally.
How much do the classes cost?
Our team can assist you to access the sessions through the NDIS or other funding bodies. We will provide a quote when you can submit an enquiry via our online form. Feel free to contact us on 1300 774 625 with any questions.
